How odd that when the president's largest corporate donor, Goldman Sachs, gets indicted it is seen in the wonderful world of Washington as catalyzing his efforts to modify Wall Street regulation. Goldman's employees, of course, gave Obama just shy of $1 million -- a total exceeded only by the faculty and staff at the University of California -- making them the second largest bundle of donors to the Obama campaign.

There are so many reasons to oppose Obama's financial regulation bill.

Some Republicans have focused on the fact that it sets up a TARP II fund that starts the bidding at $50 billion. Perhaps the directors of the Pew Trust recall from Econ 101 that limiting the supply of a commodity RAISES its PRICE!  Limiting exploration and drilling for oil and, instead, advocating expensive, ineffective "green energy" "for jobs" is a clever way of keeping the price OIL UP!

In moving to eliminate 1,100 underperforming dealerships by late next year, General Motors Corp. on Friday sent a message to bondholders and the United Auto Workers that all stakeholders are being asked to make sacrifices, industry experts said.

GM has two weeks left to reduce its debt and wring money-saving concessions from the union that will cut health care and other labor costs or face a probable bankruptcy filing.

"That's what this is all about," said one industry expert who has advised GM and did not wish to be identified. "They've got to be seen as forcing everyone to make sacrifices."

The mystery is why the authorities haven't ELIMINATED mandatory "mark to market" standards now contributing to the financial devastation?!
